Manicure: Is it by mistake or design?

I stumbled upon a picture of a manicure very similar to this last week - I can't remember where now, so I apologise! - and thought that I'd have a go at recreating it myself. Anything to get out of writing my dissertation!

FYI my fingers look really shiny throughout because I use a quick dry spray (from Avon) that's really oily and gross! Also, I suck at painting nails lol.

Firstly, I applied Barry M Silver Foil Instant Nail Effects. I think I used two coats just to get rid of the streaks a bit.

Then I applied Barry M Blue Moon (317) to three fingers on one hand and two on the other. Leaving a little bit at the bottom for the silver to show through.

Then I used Barry M Peach Melba (318) on the remaining fingers, again leaving a bit at the bottom for the silver.

After that I applied elf Matte Finisher to all nails except for the silver parts.

I love the colours and I love the way I've alternated them on each hand. However, I don't think I'll be doing it with the silver again. It looks strange. And people keep asking me why I've left a bit at the bottom - not cool. Still, better to have tried it in the first place!

Whats your current manicure? Link to any posts below, I'd love to check them out :)

Fortnight in Instagram

I don't know about you but I'm obsessed with Instagram at the moment and I love to see everyone else's post with their latest pictures in. So I thought I would have a go at doing my own! Here a few pictures from the last two weeks.

Failing at my diet; Making up for the curry; Getting stamp happy whilst drunk
Dying laptop; working too much; Drinking way too much tea
Randomly hot day!; What to eat when you have no food in; Starting a new book
Writing my dissertation; analysing data; writing reports
I would love to see any of your posts with instagram photos in! Link below and I'll check them out :)

Diet Diary - Week One

I've - once again - gone on a diet. I'm going on holiday with my boyfriend in September and I really want to be in the best shape ever when I hit the beautiful Turkish beaches! Not only that, I reckon we will end up going on loads of adventures whilst there and I want to be able to last the day without tiring.

I'm not doing anything in particular to try and lose weight, just exercise and healthy eating. I think there is no proven way to lose weight and that following a particular diet doesn't work for everyone. And I didn't want to get stuck in a routine I was unhappy with. Following my own 'plan' enables me to make tweaks and adjustments along the way.

So, this week has not gone too well. I went back to the gym on Thursday and Friday, doing cardio at a low intensity for a long duration. I feel so much better for it already so definitely going to keep that up! I've found that the best time to go is from 5 till half 6, so I can watch Come Dine With Me, Coach Trip and the Simpsons whilst I work out! Surprisingly, it helps keep me going.

As for food, that hasn't gone well either :( I think that the pressure of trying to be good has gotten to me a little bit. I've been to Nando's, an indian restaurant and had dominos today. Not good. Hopefully next week will be better.

I haven't weighed or measured myself this week but I highly doubt I've lost any weight!

Does anyone have any useful tips? Any way to keep me away from all the carbs I'm constantly craving? I'd love to hear them!

50 before 30! #1

I'm at the ripe old age of 21 now (yikes!) and graduate from university in like....5 months. Scary. I'm quite sad to be leaving as well as I've always enjoyed being in education and really don't want it to end! I've been thinking up so many different things that I want to do after uni for months now and thought that, rather than just saying them to my boyfriend - who probably doesn't really listen anyway - I'd write them all down in a series of blog posts! So here is post number 1!

(Images from weaheartit.com)

1. Become a master chef (at least in my circle of friends) and have at least ONE signature dish for each course.
Don't these look yummy! I need to find out what they are...
http://weheartit.com/entry/8756312
I'm not a bad cook, my food is delicious and I know more than two handfuls of recipes. However, we're talking about things like spaghetti bolognaise, lasagne and fajitas haha! Somehow I don't think I'm going to be content living off these dishes forever! And what sort of wife am I going to be if I can't cook delicious things like stew and stuff?

2. Learn a new language.

http://weheartit.com/entry/7738705
Hopefully I will be taking a short course in German from September! I would love to eventually become fluent in it some day.

3. Do a Masters degree with the Open University.

http://weheartit.com/entry/2307193
I know some people don't view the Open University with high regard but I have found a Masters course on there that sounds PERFECT. I'm hoping to start that this September or maybe some time next year, depending on my job situation. It's only going to cost £4000 which I think is reasonable and I would officially become Jodie Sippel MBA which is pretty cool!

4. Have a baby.

http://weheartit.com/entry/22939603
Bit of a random one! But I would love to have a baby before I am 30. I know many of my friends consider that to be quite a young age to have one these days (unless you're from my home town apparently! so many people in my year at school have children already!) but I want to be able to raise a child and still be young enough to have grown up fun again when they are old enough to leave home! Saying that, I have always said I want 3/4 children so the grown up fun may have to just take a back seat.

5. Decorate my own house.

http://weheartit.com/entry/10135629
I'm 21 and have never decorated anywhere myself before. I have so many great ideas and I know exactly how I want my house to be decorated when I eventually get it. Hopefully I won't be waiting for too long!

I'm not sure how I'm going to format these posts yet. They will almost always be in sets of 5 and I think I'll try and get them up every Sunday. Although I'm so busy at the moment, they will probably end up late haha!

Do any of you have lists like these? Link to them below! I'd love to check them out :)

Accidentally Large Primark Haul

Anyone that knows me will know how much I adore Primark. When I was growing up it was seen as a cheap store that sold crap clothes and if you wore anything from there, you tried not to mention it. Nowadays, I see Primark as an amazing place to shop - especially if you don't have a lot of spare cash. People still knock it and it still has quite a poor reputation but I love it. I always seem to find such nice clothes in there whenever I go and my wardrobe is teeming with beautiful pieces.

Having not really done any shopping since I went to Birmingham for both mine and my boyfriends birthday last October, I decided it was about time to get some new clothes. And boy did I do just that. After I picked up the first three items, I knew it was going to be a big spend. Several people have been disgusted by the amount but quite frankly - I don't care. I work hard for my money and I intend to spend it however I want!

I've lost the receipt but I'll try and remember roughly what the price of things were. I know I definitely did not spend more than £13 on any item.

Plain boring black cami £2

Cream and pink striped jumper £10

Colour block tee, either £4 or £6

Plain black cardigan £8 or £10

Boring fluffy white dressing gown £10

Space invaders towel £4 or £6

Plain boring old navy cami £2

Sheer navy blouse with striped back £8

Rust and navy striped dress £8

Ace tee! £3/4

Pyjama bottoms £5

Wing ring reduced to £1

Bracelet reduced to £1

Squirrel and nut necklace reduced to £1

There were a few other pieces like underwear that I needed that I also got! I love every single item I bought, even the boring essentials that I needed :) Primark has gotten so many good things in lately!

My Experience With Graduate Schemes/Interviews

Being in my third year of university means one thing - it's interview time. Whether you're going to be moving onto further education through the form of a postgraduate course or going into full time employment, you're going to have to attend an interview.

For many people this can be a frightening and nerve wracking time. I know a lot of people that have never had an interview before in their lives, having never worked before. And although I believe the majority of universities provide services that can help you prepare for interviews, being in third year tends to mean having no time to yourself.

So I thought I'd give my two pence worth on interviews in the hopes of perhaps helping another person feel at ease. Even if I only help one person, I've accomplished something! I have only had two interviews for graduate schemes so far. This is more because I didn't apply to many rather than not being successful with my application - so don't think they're impossible to get on!

My first interview was with the NHS for their Health Informatics graduate scheme. It was the second stage in applying to the scheme, the first being the initial application which included a numeracy, logic and personality type test. The interview took place at Old Trafford football club in Manchester which is HUGE and made the interview seem a lot more daunting than I initially thought it was. We were in groups within a time slot, although we all had individual interviews. So don't feel intimidated if you turn up to a venue and you hadn't anticipated this sort of situation. You're in groups so you can meet the people you potentially end up working with, to see how you network and socialise with others. It's not a test but there are graduates from previous years watching the way you work the room. I was pretty quiet as I am a naturally shy person but I talked to several people including the previous graduates and feel I handled this part quite well.

The interview itself was very formal and standardised across all candidates. There were two people performing the interview, one to ask questions and one to note down your answers. There were only a handful of questions but you were required to explain in detail and in full in order to portray a complete story/situation displaying a skill. The interview went quite quickly in both how it felt and time in general - only lasting half an hour/forty minutes.

My second interview was the complete opposite to the NHS one. It was with Rapid Solicitors and was in the head office, which is quite small, and wasn't intimidating in the slightest. The interviewer was lovely and the interview ran very much like a general chat. I actually ended up being in there for an hour but at the time, it seemed to be going really quickly and definitely didn't feel that long. The interviewer had a copy of my CV in front of him but asked me questions about myself and my life and got to know me rather than my skills - although sneakily got my skills out of me in a way!

I would say that I've learnt a lot from both of these interviews. The most important thing to remember is that, no matter how well or bad it goes, every interview is an experience to learn from. If it goes bad, ask yourself why and think about how you can change things and perform better next time. If it goes well, remember what you did well and do it again! It's a simple thing but people tend not to remember it and make the same mistakes time and time again.

Another quite important thing to do is RESEARCH. I cannot emphasise enough how much a little bit of research can help you. Not only will you know about the job role you're applying for, you'll know about the company and you can apply this knowledge and tailor your answers accordingly. Having the ability to demonstrate skills that are applicable within the company goes a long, long way.

I hope that this helps you in some way, shape or form. I've always spent a few hours googling for interview advice and to see if anyone has written about their experience in interviews I will be attending. In the case of the NHS one, I actually found out roughly what to expect and this little bit of preparation mentally prepared me for the social networking portion of it. I'm so shy unless I am mentally prepared for situations like this and I think that had I not known about it beforehand, I would have been so much worse.

Do you have any experiences you'd like to share? Or any tips? I'd love to hear from you :)

A Little Advice...

I'm relatively new to blogging and I don't have many followers as of yet. But the ones I've had have stuck with me for quite a while now. And although there aren't enough to make it into a proper competition, I'd love to try my hand at a giveaway.

What do you guys reckon?

Would you be interested in a giveaway? And what sort of prize would you like to see? Bearing in mind I am only a student haha :) I'd love your thoughts on the matter..

NYX Jumbo Pencils Review

For Christmas 2011, I asked for a few beauty items that had been floating around my favourites on my browser for a while. These included some NYX Jumbo Pencils.

I'd seen them mentioned by numerous beauty bloggers and Youtubers for AGES. So when I stumbled across THIS eBay seller, I knew I had to get my hands on them. All pencils arrived bubble wrapped (my Auntie just wrapped them up as they came, in case you were wondering how I know this!) with that annoying cellophane wrap around each one.

It cost £14.00 roughly (after exchange rate) for purchase AND shipping. This is compared to $4.50 per pencil plus shipping from the NYX website itself. I'm not sure if you can get them cheaper anywhere else but to me, after this comparison, this seemed pretty reasonable.

The colours I chose were (from bottom up):
Milk (604) - a gorgeous white colour
Gold (612) - quite a coppery kind of gold
Pots & Pans (603) - a typical silver colour
Dark Brown (602) - a dark brown that actually looks quite black in the stick
Black Bean (601) - black (surprisingly lol!)
French Fries (609) - sort of like a dark brown with a hint of gold colour

I have been using these since Christmas and think it's safe to say - I'm in love. They are such gorgeous colours and work so well as a base colour for almost ANY eyeshadow look that I've been skipping the primer a lot of the time. Milk (the white) works well at accentuating any colour that you want to really stand out as a lid colour and also comes in handy as a highlight for the inner corner. I've also found that the black is really useful for darkening any colour you want on the outer corner. By applying a little and smudging it out before placing eyeshadow on top, it deepens the colour and creates a much better smokey eye.
